AI Unbearable perfection
The intellectual production these days is handled by AI. It is as perfect as it is irritating!
Everything we read online is one way or another planned, vetted, corrected, improved by our LLM of choice. We read perfectly polished posts. Ideas are well presented, argued, bullet-pointed, emojied. No typo, no grammar error, not even thinking flaws. All perfect! And yet, it is becoming absolutely unbearable!
Our brains are adapting quickly. That is what makes us who we, humans, are. We spot that AI perfection within two sentences. Those of you who have reached these words in my post already know that none of them have been produced by an LLM. My ideas are imperfectly introduced. If I ask an LLM, it will give me immediately what to do to make it more impactful, less words, better words, precise phrasing and the lot. I dread it already to see listed in front of my eyes how bad I am at presenting my ideas. And yet, in my case, I managed a PhD. I managed consulting for CEOs, CFO, CTOs. I managed to engage successfully with customers for 25 years. I managed to write a book (I wrote every single word of it, but one chapter that was the demonstration of what AI can do). I also manage to have good friends who find my conversation good enough to keep talking to me. And yet, according to LLM I am close to …what? How do I describe how I feel when I present my ideas to an LLM?
Oh, yes, it always start with: “This is the bests idea of the century! Amazing. You are a genius.” kind of thing. That is the sycophant talking. And immediately comes the never ending list of what I should do to make it better. And immediately, you feel like a failure. How could I have been so careless in my thoughts? So messy in my presentation? So this and so that? Immediately, after the sycophant comes the “let me make it perfect for you!” step. 😡 (This emoji is mine and no I never put 25 emojis in my text. It is not the way -I- work).
I believe that our humanity is what will become the most valued asset of the future. We will soon be hunting for real intelligence. Perfection is boring. Perfection is not real. Perfection is tiring. And yes, I like it when people use too many words and little errors here and there.
What if perfection for humans had nothing to do with the AI outputs? What if perfect grammars, perfect words, perfect economy of words, perfect idea layout was not that perfect after all?
